Support > Entering Dates Prior to 100 AD
Family Tree Detective does not accept dates prior to the year 100 AD. There
are a few ways that you can get around this limitation:
- Family Tree Detective allows you to enter approximations. You can
use words like Before, After, and About in conjunction
with dates. For example, you can enter a date as Before 100 in
any date field in Family Tree Detective.

- You can enter the actual date in the associated comment/location field,
as in the example below.

Even if you decide to use the second option, we recommend entering
an approximation in the date field so that Family Tree Detective knows
the general time frame of the associated event. Leaving out the date
entirely can impact some of Family Tree Detective's functionality.
For example, when generating a Search Report, Family Tree Detective
uses birth and death dates to rate the matches on a five-star scale.
