Solve the Mystery of Your Family History

Home > Technical Support > How Do I Print "Banner" or "Continuous Forms?"

  • Make sure your printer driver supports "continuous forms" or "banner" printing. (The printer driver is the piece of software that manages the communication between your operating system, such as Windows, and the printer itself.) Most printers come with drivers on floppy disk and operating systems such as Windows usually ship with drivers for the most common printers.

  • Make sure you have the printer set to Tractor Feed or Banner Print.

    1. Click the Start button, select Settings, then Printers.

    2. Click once on the icon for your printer to select it.

    3. From the File menu, select Properties.

Search through the tabs to find this setting for your driver; you'll probably find it on the tab for paper size and orientation.

  • Make sure you're using "fan fold" or "banner" paper.

  • Set the print options in Family Tree Detective.

    1. From Family Tree Detective's File menu, select Print and then click on the Setup button.

    2. Set the appropriate page margins to zero.

    3. Click and put an X in the Print Continuous Forms option.

    4. Click OK to save your changes and return to the tree.

  • Check your printer manual for setup instructions specific to your printer. You may also find some useful information on the printer manufacturer's Web site.
