Family Tree Detective lets you enter facts about an individual's life,
such as special events, personal characteristics, or favorite activities
just to name a few examples. A Fact is generally composed of three fields:
one for a Fact name, one for a Date, and one for a Comment/Location. The
Facts page contains all of the facts for an individual, including the
Born and Died events that you entered on the Family Page.
To display the More About Facts page:
- From the Family Page, click on More Facts button.
Family Tree Detective displays the More About Facts page
for the selected individual. This page always shows a new, empty line
of fact fields at the top of the list.
Note: The Born and Died events displayed on this
page are linked to the same information on the Family Page.
Changing this information on either page affects the way both are
displayed. For example: If you change the Death date or Comment/Location
in the Facts list, the changes will carry over to the Family Page
and vice-versa. Deleting it will have the same result.
Figure 1: The Facts View
- From the empty Fact Name field, use the pull-down menu to select
a predefined fact name, or enter one of your own.
Entering a fact name is required before additional information
can be entered in either the Date, or Comment/Location fields.
- Click the Date field and enter a date for this event if you
wish.
- Click the Comment/Location field and enter a comment or the
location for this fact.
- Click the final field in this Fact line: the Preferred check
box.
When selected, this date/location is the one that is preferred and
will be displayed for all facts with the same Fact Name, both in the
family page, and in all reports and trees.
- Press Enter to leave the fact line.
Family Tree Detective sorts the new fact into the Facts list.
