A Family Tree displays an individual's ancestors in the top portion of
the tree, while the descendants appear in the bottom portion.
To display an Family tree:
- Select the primary individual by clicking his or her name on a Family
Page or in another view. This is the person whose tree you want to display.
- Click on the Family Tree button
- Right click on the mouse and choose Tree Format.
Family Tree Detective displays the General tab of the Tree
Format dialog box.

- Select one of the Type option buttons described below.
Book layout -- is an Family tree that is divided into pages.
Each page contains cross-references to the previous and next page
so that you can easily include your trees in a family book.
Custom -- is a Family tree that allows complete control over
its appearance, from the information that it contains to the color
and size of the text.
- Select the following check boxes as desired.
Center tree on page(s) -- center your tree between the left,
right, top, and bottom margins.
Make all boxes the same size -- make all boxes a uniform
size. Some space is saved if this box is not selected.
Boxes overlap page breaks -- allows boxes to overlap page
breaks if necessary.
- Click the Layout tab.
Family Tree Detective displays the Layout tab of the Tree Format
dialog box. Tighter styles allow you to fit more information on each
page.

- After you make your selections, click OK.
Family Tree Detective returns you to the Family Tree view.
